MC2 Post 781 Buckyballs 25 years Later

Interactive Google Doodle Celebrates
Buckyball 25th Anniversary

From LA News Monitor:

A new allotropic form of elemental carbon was discovered in 1985.The carbon atoms in the structure were found to be arranged in a comparatively smaller cluster of atoms. These were christened “buckminsterfullerene”. The rational behind this name is that the atoms in the structure resembled the geodesic domes designed by the architect-engineer, R. Buckminster Fuller. In the due course, the name cut down to “Buckyball”.
